A dealership in Sharjah or a service centre in Industrial Area Doha needs two floors: a tough oil-resistant service bay, and a stunning showroom front-of-house. Same project, different specs.
The service-bay spec
| Detail | Spec | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Thickness | 3 mm self-level epoxy | Pallet jack, dropped tools, lift impact |
| Chemical resistance | Oil-, brake-fluid-, glycol-resistant primer | Daily exposure to all of these |
| Slip rating | R10 quartz broadcast | Wet wash-down, oil spills |
| Top-coat | UV-stable PU | Bay doors expose to sun |
| Markings | Lift pads, walk zones, bay numbers | Operational safety |
The showroom spec
| Detail | Spec | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Thickness | 2 mm metallic epoxy | Decorative, easy clean |
| Top-coat | 2× aliphatic UV-stable PU | No yellowing, gloss retention |
| Slip rating | R9 (gloss) | Showroom; wet-mop only |
| Tyre-mark resistance | Plasticiser-free formulation | Otherwise tyres mark within weeks |
The dual-spec project sequence
- Showroom poured first — cleaner, fewer site contaminants
- Service bay over a long weekend — overnight cure
- Lift pits and drains coated separately, in correct sequence
- Line-marking and signage last, by night shift
- Final hand-over with photo record and warranty
The Gulf-specific gotchas
Tyre-mark transfer
The plasticisers in modern tyres migrate into soft epoxy and cause permanent black streaks. Use a hard-shore epoxy with a plasticiser-resistant top-coat — and never let the floor be parked on within 7 days of pour.
Brake-fluid spillage
The single most aggressive workshop chemical for resin floors. Specify a brake-fluid-resistant chemical primer at the substrate level — it isolates the resin from cumulative attack.
Lift-bay strips
The 1 m strip in front of each lift sees concentrated traffic. Plan a top-coat-only refresh every 4 years on those strips — extends overall floor life by 50%.
